5 GOOD RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES FOR YOU AND YOUR ELDERLY
Everyone deserves fun, good times even in old age. However, the activities people consider “fun” may not be all that good for our elderly family members who are experiencing a weakening in muscles and overall fatigue.
It may be difficult for our elderly family members to travel to different places, especially places that require plenty of walking. Fortunately, there are a good number of ways to enjoy time with seniors without compromising their health!
Here are five good recreational activities that you and your elderly family member can get into:
- Movie night
You can either have a movie night in a theater if seniors are still up for it or you can just sit back on the couch with them, put up Netflix, and watch the night/day away! Be sure to bring some senior-friendly snacks with you for the full movie experience!
- Go shopping
Shopping can go many ways, but make sure it’s shopping that your senior loved ones will love! That can be grocery shopping or clothes shopping—whichever will give them good time to relax and unwind with you.
- Join interest-based organizations
Maybe seniors would like to learn a new hobby like cross-stitching or embroidery, or maybe they’re one of those seniors who would like to get into technology. There are organizations everywhere that can provide workshops for these hobbies and you can always join them along with your senior family members.
Take seniors down a trip to memory lane by encouraging them to scrapbook or journal their day. Talk about it with them at the end of the day. This way, they can look forward to something by sunset!
- Monitor their health
Of course, to be able to do all these activities, your senior loved ones need constant monitoring of their health. But they don’t have to be alone in doing so! You can be there to remind them and maybe even take their blood pressure for them when you can. Keep track of important changes in a small notebook and encourage them to take care of themselves.
At Bayou Home Care, a Home Care in Louisiana, we endeavor to remind you that there are a million and one ways to enjoy life even at an old age. Make sure that they never forget this so they never stop living the best of their lives.
