3 Simple Snacks to Prepare for Your Senior Family Member

3-Simple-Snacks-to-Prepare-for-Your-Senior-Family-Member

It may be quite a challenge for elderly family members to create full meals of their own. This could either be due to a health condition or just overall weariness of the muscles. Some would actually prefer what is called “small frequent meals” in which around 4-5 small meals are taken throughout the day and are still enough to cover the necessary daily nutritional value.

These small meals may seem like “snacks” to us due to their small serving size, but one thing to be sure of is its nutritional value. These “snacks” for seniors should have all the necessary nutrients and minerals they’ll need throughout the day.

From all of us at Bayou Home Care, here are 3 “snacks” you can make for your senior family members:

  • Cheese Omelette with Herbs

This very simple omelet makes for a very good breakfast along with some toasted bread. Eggs are a great source of protein and can help reduce the risk of age-related degeneration, such as blindness. Cheese also contains protein, along with a number of essential nutrients needed by our bodies such as calcium, zinc, magnesium, and vitamin A. Lastly, all herbs have different nutritional values of their own, as long as they are fresh and organic.

  • Sardine Savory

Sardine savory is basically just a mixture of egg, sardines, mustard, milk, vinegar, and butter all cooked over medium heat. When paired with bread, this snack can be a great source of protein, omega-3, vitamin D, and calcium.

  • Tuna Baked Potatoes

For a “fuller” snack, these tuna baked potatoes would be good for seniors. This can be done in a number of ways; after all, baked potatoes are as versatile and customizable as they come, but tuna is specially valued for its good source of protein, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids.

All these snacks, of course, will be dependent on your senior family member’s health condition or food restrictions. Just make sure to consult your doctor before you add new dishes to the current meal plan.
